Shelly Covarrubias

Student Support

Hello! My name is Shelly Covarrubias, Ms. Cova or Ms. C to some. I feel so blessed to be the student support teacher this year at BFSMS. I started my teaching journey in the Northeast School District where I worked for 29 years, and with Region 20 Education Service Center as an adjunct teacher teaching future teachers, before finding my home here at Buckner Fanning. I know that the Lord has always led me to be with the students, families, and colleagues I work with every day. You will find that Buckner Fanning Christian school has that warmth and connection  that is so important to education.

I grew up in Southern California and moved to San Antonio in my 20’s where I immediately fell in love with this town and its’ diverse culture. I graduated with my teaching certification in Interdisciplinary Studies from UTSA. Yes, I am a roadrunner! Meep! Meep!

I have one daughter, Dana, who is married to Ronan and she is a “kind of famous“ costume designer in New York City. I recently became a grandma to my sweet grandson, Cosmo, which is a joy that I just can’t describe. I spend my vacations traveling to visit them and my dad who lives in California, in my childhood home.

What drew me to student support work is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students, help develop their confidence, and give them a tool kit for success. I believe that this success gives them wings, which leads me to my favorite Bible verse, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. “Psalm 91:4

Together for our children,  Ms. Cova
