Carlos Pla

Technology Teacher

My name is Carlos Pla. I am humbled and blessed to be a part of the BFSMS family as the Spanish teacher! I am a son of two amazing parents, a brother to four younger siblings, a husband to a beautiful wife and a new daddy anxiously waiting for July of 2023!

Over the past few years I had been working as an online tutor and travelling with my wife, Jacqueline. I am originally from Puerto Rico and have lived there as well as Florida, Mexico and San Antonio. I have also had the blessing of travelling to many countries including Canada, Spain and Kenya. I love exploring new cultures! When I am not travelling, I like to read, journal, exercise, cook, play my guitar and with my dog, Lupin! But most of all, I love spending time with my wife and my big family!

I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering in 2016 and have more than 5 years of experience working as a Software Developer in the Oil and Gas industry. I also have 10+ years of working with kids through private music lessons (theory, guitar and piano). I have 2+ years experience working as a substitute teacher in all grade levels (K-12) in both private and public schools, as well charter schools. I have tutored various subjects with emphasis on algebra, middle school math, and Spanish. My career switch allowed me to align my knowledge and skills with my values. It also gave me the room, physically, emotionally and spiritually to focus on the most important vocation in my life, my marriage, although I am still learning and always will. That is why the best teacher is the one who is always willing to be a life-long student. With God's grace, I can hopefully live with intention, presence and love for those around me on this journey as a new teacher and a new father.

My life lesson plan and curriculum is the one that the ultimate teacher gave us: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” - Mark 12:30-31
